Old men declare war. But it is youth that must fight and die - H. Hoover.
We join the camera traipsing through the noisy woods with
some very young soldiers dressed in uniforms of soldiers of conflicts from the
early 20th century to the modern day, they answer questions prompted by someone
behind the camera.
There's not a whole lot to this one if I'm being honest, but
the quote (above) by Hoover sums it up nicely I believe. Isabelle Tollenaere
(Director/Writer) is presumably trying to argue the loss of innocence and the
cocktail of depravity and madness that comes with war by getting these young
men to retell accounts from conflicts around the world who could very well be
the same age of those that had originally told their tales of killing others in
the name of patriotism, homeland and other such nonsense.
Although I feel the message came across well, there was
something extremely amateurish about the whole short film, but maybe that's me
just taking the "acting" at face value rather than itself being part
of some contrived point that I've missed. On the plus side I did really enjoy
the camera work and other visual tid-bits, but that wasn't enough for me
personally to put this on much of a pedestal.
